UNCOVERING ANCIENT GREECE AND ROME
This educational tour explores life in ancient Greece
and Rome, meets Standards of Learning for Third Graders' study of
Greece and Rome, and includes three components:
1. An architectural treasure hunt surveys Sweet
Briar's architecture. Sweet Briar's architecture is in the Georgian
style, and is a later example of the classical style seen in the
architecture of Ancient Greece and Rome. The tour teaches children
to identify architectural components such as columns, pediments,
entablatures, and arcades.
2. A tour of the exhibition, "Akalypta." Third graders
will be guided through the "Akalypta" exhibition which includes
pottery and ancient bronze objects, nails, and other artifacts that
were part of the every day lives of citizens of Ancient Greece and
Rome.
3. The Odyssey Game . The re-enactment of the The
Odyssey presents students with an opportunity to learn about Homer's
epic with the aids of props and costumes.
