The art gallery and the Sweet Briar Collection are housed in the award-winning Anne Garry Pannell Center. Formerly the Refectory, it is one of the four original campus buildings designed by the firm of Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson in 1906. Reflecting the architects' characteristic historicism, the exterior design is a rare collegiate example of Ralph Adam Cram's Georgian Revival style. The interior was renovated in 1985 to include climate-controlled display and storage facilities appropriate to the scope and quality of the Sweet Briar Collection.
The Gallery celebrated the 20th anniversary of the opening of Sweet Briar's Pannell Art Gallery in 2004. Special celebrations were held on Founder's Day.
