Feng Zhongtie

In 1935, in Shanghai, Feng began teaching himself woodblock carving. Also an experienced cartoonist, he became a member, in 1938, of the council of the All-China Association of Anti-Enemy Woodcutters and used his draftsman's skills to produce propaganda woodblocks; he was afterwards director of the association's Chongqing branch. After the war against Japan ended, Feng went to Hong Kong in 1949, where he joined the Society for Pictures of the Human World. Returning to Sichuan in 1951, he worked as an editor as well as a woodblock creator. He has been a member of the Xinan Literary Union (afterwards the Sichuan Literany Union), and the Chongqing and Sichuan branches of the Chinese Artists' Association; he has also been a member of the council of the Sichuan Branch of the Chinese Artists' Association and adviser to the Chinese Printmakers' Association.
