Tang Guangtai, artist

A. Resist America, Support Korea

65.5 x 31.5 cm

The label on the honorary flower of the central fugure reads, "model peasant," and the boy's scroll reads, "increase production." The titles reflect the considerable anxiety in China at the time of the Korean War (1950-1953) that the United States army would invade China. The United States led the United Nations forces that aided South Korea, and the North Korean army included the Chinese Peoples' Volunteer Brigade.

B. Protect the Country and Home

62 x 31.5 cm

The honorary flower draped from the peasant's shoulders carries the label "model producer"; written on the scroll held up by the child is the slogan, "practice strict economy." (The artist's name is printed beside a trouser leg.)
