Jiang Shu

Jiang began making woodblocks in Shanghai, in 1930. After the outbreak of war with Japan, in 1937, he created propaganda prints, first in Shanghai, then in Wuhan. Moving on again to Chongqing in 1939, he made his living by teaching, while continuing his propaganda war efforts. From 1945 he worked as a commercial artist in that city, joining the teaching staff, in 1950, of the Southwest Peoples Art Academy (which became, after 1958, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts).
