Liu Haiming

From 1974 to 1977 Liu, like other members of his family, worked as a miner in Shanxi. He was accepted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1977, when the academy reopened after its closure during the Cultural Revolution. Upon graduation from the print department in 1981, he returned to Shanxi to join the faculty of the College of Arts and Culture, in Taiyuan. Liu also has been visiting lecturer at the Aberdeen Printmaking Studio, in Scotland, and at the Centre Frans Masereel, in Belgium. He collects papercuts, and his work is influenced by the vigorous linear qualities that characterize this kind of folk art from his native province. He lives and works in both China and England.
