Song Enhou

His artist's sobriquet is Shizhan

Song was a master electric welder working in Harbin before being transferred, in 1956, to Wuhan, Hubei, to take part in constructing China's second largest steel production plant. For thirty years he worked for the First Metallurgical Construction Company of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industries. In the 1950s he learned informally to paint and make woodblock prints and subsequently was awarded many prizes, including National First Class Artist, for his success as a worker-artist. He has been a member of the Wuhan Cultural Union, vice-chairman of the Wuhan Calligraphers' Association, member of the councils of the Chinese Artists' Association and Chinese Printmakers' Association, and vice-chairman of the Hubei branch of the Chinese Artists'Association.
