Zhang Minjie

In 1975 Zhang began creating stage art for the cultural troupe of Fengnan town. He was injured in the great Tangshan earthquake of 1976 and, on his recovery, returned to the troupe to work as an actor. In 1984 he travelled across much of North China (and again, in 1988-89, in Southwest China) sketching the daily activities of the people and also making woodblock prints. Zhang was admitted to the print department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1988. When he graduated in 1990, he joined the Qinhuangdao (Hebei) Print Studio. Now an associate researcher at the Qinhuangdao Mass Art Centre, he is also vice-chairman of the Qinhuangdao branch of the Chinese Artists' Association and a member of the council of the Chinese Printmakers' Association. He works in both woodblock and lithograph. | ||||
