The Sweet Briar College Art Gallery is dedicated to the enrichment of cultural life on campus, in the community, and throughout central Virginia. The Gallery program supports the educational mission of Sweet Briar College through its active education program and through the collecting, preservation, and formal exhibition of works of art at the three campus galleries: Pannell, Babcock , and Benedict.

The Gallery program serves students enrolled in the arts management certification program by providing the opportunity to observe and participate in day-to-day art museum operations. The Gallery also serves the art history and studio art curriculae by providing an opportunity for object-centered learning, and to the humanities curriculae, through the presentation of unique cultural and historic works of art. In addition, the Gallery gives work-study students the opportunity to obtain not only exposure to the arts, but also vocational training in museum methods.
